A square metal plate is clamped at its center and sand or salt is sprinkled on it. The plate is driven with a violin bow at various points along the edge. The thumb may be placed at various points to form nodes in the motion of the plate. to make it work: 1. Spread sand evenly over plate. 2. Pull the bow slowly over edge of plate, placing index finger. 3. Use rosin to the bow to increase the friction between the bow and the metal.
