Wimshurst Machine
Safety Notice:
Can produce lethal shocks when connected to too many Leyden jars.
The Wimshurst machine carries out charging by induction automatically. Two large insulated discs carrying symmetrically placed aluminum foil sectors are rotated about a common axis in opposite directions. Cranking the handle rotates the two plates in opposite directions, generating a large electrostatic potential. Leyden jars can be connected to the two electrodes to store the charge increasing the intensity of the spark between the two balls on the arms mounted above the Leyden jars.
