Pan balance
PIRA: Unknown
A pan balance which can be read to one tenth of a gram. What one does is to compare the weight of an object of unknown mass with a reference of known mass. When the scale balances, the two weights are equal, and hence the two masses are equal since both masses are in essentially the same gravitational field.
