A tall plastic cylinder has horizontal tubes which serve as openings along the side. The velocity of efflux is greatest for the opening furthest down the cylinder. One can show that the greatest horizontal range of the stream is realized by the tube located at a height half the distance between the top of the liquid and the surface on which the water lands. The water streams from the top and bottom orifices meet at the same place. The stream from the middle orifice has the greatest range.
